I recently got hold of an old sewing machine with a view to doing some canvas work for the boat. My first attempt was this cover for the tillerpilot, which has proved itself to be not particularly waterproof. The material is similar to the stuff used for rucksacks. The material and the plastic for the window plus the velcro for the closure at the end came from a local fabric supplier and was all pretty cheap. It is not perfect but I'm quite pleased with it for a first attempt. It was all made inside out and held together with double sided tape and a few pins for assembly. I suppose it took a few hours altogether as I had to work out how to use the machine. It was a nice easy job to do whilst my hand recovers from surgery.
