Just finalising plans for this years cruise. Can any body please advise, Irish boat, should I use Scottish Lion or Saint Andrews flag for Scotland. Isle of Man flag for IOM, and red or blue ensign for England and Northern Ireland.

Red ensign for all of them.
None of them are independent countries. Isle of Man maybe not but no one will care.

You'll get loads of people arguing about everything and confusing the issue on this question.

For all the UK countries, the Red Ensign is all that's required for ettiquet (I can't spell) and courtesy. If you like flags then you can fly a local flag under the Red Ensign, eg the Saltire, IOM, Welsh or the likes for fun.

There will be others along shortly to put a nationallistic slant on it or decry the use of flags, but just ignore them. The last question like this went for pages!!!

Enjoy the trip.

Red ensign .. for any part of the uk but add local flags below it if you wish. Saltire for Scotland

The lion rampant is the royal banner and I believe should only be used by the Queen in her capacity as Queen of Scots

Not sure if the Red Ensign is correct for IOM of if you should use the IOM red Ensign

Yeah, I remember seeing her on the tellie as a kid waving it at a football match at Wembley. She was wearing a false ginger beard and a checked skirt.

Thats the trouble with these Royals. They will draw attention to themselves. If she'd just chucked bog rolls on to the pitch nobody would have noticed.
