Does anyone know of a courier firm that will deliver a parcel containing paint or varnish in tins without my having to lie about the contents?

They exist but usually only on contract where the customer is known and level of packaging is agreed. Having said that, I'm often surprised by the paucity of packing for liquids.

But I don't think I've seen a consumer service that doesn't exclude paint, or mostly liquids of any sort.

I just Googled "Paint Courier" and found this:
In the past it has been difficult to find a reliable and cheap courier for paint, both within the United Kingdom and Overseas.
Overland Express have been sending paint, with our partner DPD, on their extensive domestic and European road network, for nearly 25 years.

We only partner with industry leaders, for example, DHL, UPS and DPD so you can be sure your paint delivery is in the safest hands, plus, if you send a can of paint, for example, it is fully insured against loss or damage. Furthermore, as we benefit from being a volume purchaser from the likes of DHL, UPS and DPD, we get preferential rates, which in turn, we pass on to you.
To start saving huge sums of money on all of your paint deliveries, please take a look at our great rates that are available through the Quick Quote tool. You would be wrong to think the cost of sending paint is expensive. And remember, when you send paint, please select DPD as the courier for paint.
Our Highlights: UK delivery from just £3.99

Thanks for taking the trouble to find that for me.

Reading these lists I wonder what they will transport?

Ask a paint supplier who they use. I had 2 cans of spray paint delivered, from a specialised paint mixer in the Midlands, wrapped in bubble wrap and tape. Didn't seem a great problem

The UK is something of joke when comes to transporting most things. SVB in Germany will transport paint, antifouling, epoxy you name it, to any EU country. I believe they use Deutsche Post/DHL and UPS.

I bought some paint from Craftmaster a while ago. To cut a long story short, it had leaked in the courier van.. but the driver said it was a bit of paint from another package, so my wife accepted it and put it on a worktop in the kitchen.

I took it outside immediately I got home and, upon opening, one tin was part crushed, and had leaked all over the inside of the box. A standard cardboard box, with a few polystyrene blobs.

Craftmaster said it had never happened before, and refused point blank to wrap the replacements in bubble wrap so that they couldn’t possibly leak... not even as a one off.

So I won’t be buying direct from Craftmaster any more, and would suggest their courier is avoided, whoever they are.

Not exactly what OP looking for but Marine Superstore appear to be willing to send paint (antifoul included) almost everywhere. Given the cost of it in Spain, I may use their service.
