I attach an email just received from 'Roman Baths', seems the BBC are getting interested in the RNLI

Hi Geoff, I have just watched Countryfile on BBc Tv, next week they are having a debate on making people pay to be rescued at sea! People are asked to e mail their views which I have done, remembering last week!!! I wanted to ask the Forum to do the same, cant seem to get in. Will you do it - BBC Countryfile home page. I mentioned not wanting to pay for posh new RNLI HQ. regards Anne. Ps, I had the idea that people who row the Atlantic etc should pay a deposit before they go !

We had a particularly rough trip back from Newtown to Poole last week, really big stuff off Hengistbury, hence the reference to last week!

maybe we should pay a deposit before flying or taking the train just in case we need to rescued in the event of a crash

Not wishing to knock the RNLI but if u want some insider info: the RNLI have Millions in their funds, they do not like this to be well known, i wonder why. They where told by the Charity watchdog to release some of their funds. Hense the surf life saving/ beach watch initiative.
What ever happenend to the Charity Surf Life Saving Assoc? Thats another story.

Blue Marlin,

Suggest you search these forums for the FACTS regarding RNLI funding.... I can see you are a new user...
Briefly - the RNLI had millions - as many other charities had - then lost it - as many other charities did - with the stock market wobbles. It is public information in the Annual Report. They were not instructed to release funds.
SLSA GB still alive and well, AFAIK, and co-operating with RNLI on Beach Lifeguards...

Cheers

Ribrunt.
