Could the EA do this on the Thames?

I thought that those on a crusing licence on the canal system were obliged to move to a new parish every 14 days anyway – perhaps only applies in parts? However, the point has been often made it boils down to enforcement. I think there is a chap who who “enforces” the rule on the Limehouse Cut, by noting down numbers etc, but still boats are there that do not appear to have moved in at least 3-4 months.

If no one takes action to get these vessels moving then most will stay put. I posted recently about the worst looking vessels out there. In my experience, it’s those that move least, or not at all that tend to appear the most neglected, the most overfilled with junk and the least shipshape.

I don’t think a permanent berth rule is the answer. The root cause here is lack of affordable housing, and not those who found this to be a choice they felt they could afford. However once that choice has been made, I think its sad, and dangerous that some of these people have not embraced the lifestyle.

Perhaps insisting that vessels are able to and do move would help that?

Very interesting, sounds like good news at last. When I enquired about overstayers, I was fobbed off by Spelthorne who informed me it was the EA's responsibility. Do we know which moorings have been tackled and hopefully freed up?

Well done to the EA.

Well done to the EA.
At present only EA moorings above Osney and at Weybridge, Desborough and Walton. EA only responsible for moorings under their direct control. Remains to be seen how long they take to extend the scope to other EA locations and for LA's and private landowners to follow suit.
