Every time I walk round several of the Clyde Marinas, I am horrified at the total lack of care in terms of customers masts. In particular, the treatment meated out to what are very expensive jib furling gear. Today was the last straw, I witnessed a 40 foot long mast with its associated furling gear badly supported as usual, but this time with the joint just above the furling drum being laid across one of the few supports with the result that the joint was beginning to open up due to the weight of the drum. Come on Marinas, this cavalier attitude to the property of the people who keep you in a living is just not good enough, start to take ownership of your responsibilities.

I suspect that the activity you are talking about is, in fact, a concession within the marina, but that doesnt alter your point.

I doubt very much that the organisation involved has a "couldn't care less" policy. I guess that they dont want it like you find it. The problem ( and its the same in every walk of life) is the sloppy lazy British worker many of whom couldnt care a damn. You cannot counteract this with supervision because you would need one supervisor to one worker, and in any case who checks that the supervisor isnt bunking off. And the only result of firing someone who doesnt do a good job is an industrial tribunal, political courts if ever there were ones (one found for one of my employees when he was fired for stealing fork truck batteries on the basis that theft wasnt against the company disciplinary rules!)

Thats why we buy our cars from Germany or Japan, and import most of the other things we used to make including boats. Outside the UK, made in Britain is synonymous (?) with poor quality!

My boat, my reponsibility.
On those occasions that I can't do a job myself I supervise during the event or check very soon thereafter.
If I ever find a yard that employ staff who treat my boat and it's gear with as much care as I do then I will go there and stay there.

would suggest that poorly motivated workers are a result of piss poor management/direction, a real British disese and that though you may buy German and Jap they for two years voted the Rover the 'best' car ......have a look at the sun and pull your head out of your arse!
