Could I convert 4 burner Force 10 gas stove to induction hob on top?

I don't think that's how they work (could be wrong). My understanding is that the glass surface doesn't get hot but the cooking utensil (saucepan/fry-pan/kettle) does
I think that's the point I tried to make though not very well. They work by inducing a current in ferrous pans not by radiant heating but my recollection was that they'll also heat ferrous objects in the near vicinity, eg a metal surface underneath them.

"Must be a major project" But it is just one of my major projects?

Maybe you would be interested in just one of my other major projects? (I don't sit in my yacht posting endless tiresome/obnoxious comments all day!?)

Maybe if you ever get as many messages of thanks as I've had over the years, you'll realise that lots of people benefit from the advice freely given by many of us on the forum. ;)

I guess in 39,500 posts you have to get it right a few times.?

Remind me what your stance is on obnoxious comments...

"Let’s face it: some people are off-putting. Unfortunately, they don’t self-identify. They simply blunder through life either a) clashing with people, embroiled in conflict after conflict, or b) bouncing from relationship to relationship, lonely and confused about why they don’t have close friends".

"To repeat: Obnoxious people rarely recognize themselves — until they get tired, fired, or lonely. If you have one of these people in your workplace, stand clear until they get help. Otherwise, they create havoc and resentment for all concerned".

So I should stand clear of you until you get help?

Hey Coopec - PVB is one of those posters that freely give of their knowledge and experience so how about you lay off now. You are just making yourself look extremely silly right now.

Many years ago one of the beachfront home owners got out his farm scarifier and destroyed all the beachfront vegetation without getting permission or discussing it with the neighbors.

Nature made a valiant effort to re-vegetate but it was going to take a lot of time. After getting enthusiastic permission from both Local Government and the State Government I started work on the project. I estimate I had to grow 5,000 cuttings of native plants, sedges, grasses and ground covers in my backyard, plant them out and water them by hand for the first year of their life.

I am delighted with the result and it gets better by the day. I have posted photos below (scroll down the page)

There are other projects but I won't bore you with the details.

Now can I ask you, apart from posting 39,500 comments on YBW Forums what have been your major achievements over the last 20 years? (On the back of a postage stamp will be fine ) ?

Thats about a weeks growth in the current weather round here...showery and warm...ish......but seriously that looks like a great project to be involved in.

Just a minor point. You can't have induction hobs with a heart implant like wot I have. Well you can, but it cooks you from the inside out. I'd keep it simple for cooking. I know Origo spirit stoves have their limitations, but they are simple and relatively safe and they work and are pretty well nil maintenance. I'm a domestic gas installer and yet I am always slightly reserved about gas on boats, or indeed pressurised paraffin cookers.

Before I went to the effort of installing an induction hob on the boat using an inverter I'd want to do dry runs ashore on a garage/shed rig to test its capability and capacity in real life. There is nothing worse than doing an install and then finding it just can't quite do what you envisaged.

The revegetation project is very rewarding as it has now taken over and regenerating on its' own. (In my next life I want to come back as a horticulturalist)

Apparently people with pacemakers can't do any welding but I wasn't aware induction hobs were a problem too.

I freak out when you say you are a "domestic gas installer" and you are "reserved about gas on boats" That's a worry! I do have a powerful bilge blower and, of course, I will install an alarm. But if the induction hob works alright off my pure sine wave inverter I think that'll be the way to go.

As far as installing the induction hob I was just going to make a mount for it on top of the gas cooktop

If hydrogen powered cars take-off maybe we can use hydrogen for cooking?
