Bank holiday weekend on Lough Derg was like the Med. Friday and Saturday awesome weather. Sun came back on Sunday at noon after a grey start.

Took the canopy off and flew the boys blue flag! :) Well done Leinster!

The lough was like a mill pond under blue skies and radient sunshine. Barefoot and shorts were the order of the weekend. Loads of diverse and relaxed activity on the lake. Spotted this gleaming cruiser ahead.

Family fun all round

Blue sky, sun and warm heat - we were so blessed with the weekend weather. No rush, just chill and relaxed in another zone - frozen in time.

Loads of sail vessels of all shapes and sized out enjoying the water, this one early on Sunday morning

First overnight moored in a very relaxed Mountshannon, our first night spent a harbour for a very long time, good company, lovely atmosphere and the grub in 'An Cupan Caife' as good as ever. Spent next two nights anchored off Holy Island as it's easier to run the dogs ashore in the dinghy last thing at night and 1st thing in the morning for a run. So chilled out. Feels like we've been away for a week not just 3 nights.

It's a dogs life chilling out on the water - seriously chilled out pets.

Down on derg there seemed to be nothing but harmony and good humour all round, from every concievable type of water user. It was so enjoyeable seeing so many folks enjoying the wonderful lough in so many ways, sailing dinghys, kayaks, pedalos, cruisers, ribs, barges, simming, sail yachts, speed boats, skiers, towing, BBQs, et al. :)

Thanks. We are blessed with these amazing inland seas connected directly to the SW coastal paradise.

Thanks, they sure are, as are we with these wonderful inland seas, a cruising paradise.

I concur with that 100% having just returned from a trip from Carrick upon Shannon down to Lough Derg; sadly the weather was not as good as these photo's but a very enjoyable trip.

Pretty sure we spotted OF in Carrick.

Thanks for all the information in your various posts which were very useful.

I notice you use the range rings on the radar OF, I understand it's purely a matter of choice, but I prefer to turn them off and have a clear screen to scan for small targets, then wind out the variable range marker to check the distance off.
Seconded.
I guess most folks get used to live with rings just because they're active by default when the radar is turned on...

@ oceanfroggie: some very nice landscapes around there, thanks for posting the pics!

Good point Andie & Mapis. I suppose I'm just used to the rings. I often have target expansion enabled so even small targets tend to show unless it's dog rough. On the large loughs it's not uncommon to come across small open angling boats out late at night but unlit! At least it's usually in benign wave conditions so they do create an echo as do the smaller buoys and nav markers.

Great photos, OF. I take it the bizarre weather you experienced is now back to normal:)

Hi Mike :) Yes, we are awaiting a break to round the Fastnet on route to Waterford for the Tall Ships race. Unseasonably, the winds got up about 10 days ago and have only abated for a day since. Middle of next week onwards shows an improvement though. Noel

be nice to see a couple of shots of the ships at play, if you get the opportunity ;)
