Costa Concordia -- Re floating has started

I expect that when the ship is being scrapped, that a large security operation will be needed to protect passengers' valuables in their cabins.

I motored past it two hours ago.. It is a very big operation. I guess we got to within 1/2 a mile before Polizia came and ushered us off, nicely I must add.

It looks like a very sorry state of affairs.

It does make you wonder though how on earth it could have happened without stupidity being involved. I mean it's a big island, it's rather deep around it as well. I am anchored in Campese bay just north. Shallowest I could drop in was 25m.....

Hopefully they get to recover the last body so that family can get closure.

Terrible tragedy that should never have happened.

The company/insurers paid out compensations therefore according to the law the possessions now belong to the company/insurers.
I expect that the company/insurers must have come to a deal with the scrapping company that accounted for the value of the wreck and anything recoverable inside it.

If it wasn't for the stupidity it wouldn't have happened.

Indeed there is that. But there is also the poor quality of "professionals" that large corporations hire at low rates and cannot even understand the languge spoken. Do not forget that the helmsman was a foreigner who at least twice failed to understand the orders from the captain and thus steered the wrong way.

Not hard to believe since the same is now happening all over the industries.

I'd not heard of that, and I do find it hard to believe.
