Costa Concordia - AIS video replay of the accident

That's an interesting record because it clearly shows the track of another vessel off the CC's port bow which may have delayed the initial turn in towards the island.

See also other posts on this forum which show a more detailed reconstruction of the likely path of the CC from immediately before the initial grounding to the final resting place.

The AIS track shows the Island on the port side of the ship, however when the ship crashes it has rolled on to it starboard side and the land is on that side as well.
Does that not conflict with the AIS track?????
Should it not be lying on it's port side as the Island is on the port side. In every picture I see, it seems to be traveling in the opposite direction to the track, becuse it is lying on its starboard side. Is it not??

I think that if you look closely at the AIS record you will see the direction arrow turning to port in the final moments.

The ship was turned around and brought back to shallow water near the island. It's not clear who was responsible for this, but it's just as well otherwise it would have sunk without trace in deep water.
