Last Saturday spent an unscheduled day in Portsmouth so did the tour of the Victory. The guide told us that she cost £68,000 to build. Seems good value compared to a modern Bavaria.

I dont think Cgull was having a dig at the Bavaria, (I know you have just bought one,or buying one) He was just making a point.........thats the main reason for having BBs to air points of veiw.

Yes, but as with all wooden boats - it's the maintenance!

I seem to remember that she had been condemned to be broken up, before Trafalgar, but was reprieved and rebuilt because, unlike most three deckers she actually sailed reasonably well.

Yes, I have a wooden boat, and no I would not change!

No; most of the oak is now teak (just over 70%, I think) but the GRP is confined to metalwork so far as I know.

Cannot recall seeing many GRP boats built in 1768, come to think of it...

But if she depreciated at the same rate present value would be about 3p.

Did you put in an offer?

RN apparently short of cash, can't afford to fill up all boats with diesel.

You may well have missed a bargain.
