A word of warning. 20 years of sailing with expsed hands at the wheel of sailing boats has left my skin with uv damage. I now have to plaster up with e 45 before helming on flybirdge. SAo take precautions now and dont end up with the dry skin problems I have got on the back of my hands caused by exposure whilst sailing.
I carry a tub of Aqueous Solution BP (much cheaper than E45 but very similar) on board & use it when my hands feel dry or sore. But I seldom apply anything "just in case".
Also a bottle of after sun lotion for when I forget to cover up properly.
