corrosion

My Penta Volvo 2020 gear box output flange is teated with some kind of surface teatement I believe similar to fire guns barrels, is starting to show some rusty spots. The shaft coupling is electroplated zinc? Cadmium?Corrosion is starting to make His way and from the shiny yelowish look it has changed to a dirty white/gray powderish look
Any hints how to revert this items to their prior condition and how to keep this superficial (yet) corrosion away?

Cover it with grease or Waxoyl maybe. Won't restore its original appearance but might stop it getting worse. Shut the engine room door and forget it!
