I am going through the trauma of renewing the headlining on my Rival. As part of this, I need to remove the inner aluminium plates which hold the windows in place (to get the old lining out). These plates are all heavily crusted with a paste which I assume to be Aluminium Oxide - see Link: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?...45771255.45807.176203555771564&type=1&theater

I presume that salt water got in via the screw holes and reacted with the metal?

Two questions.
1. Although this stuff would appear to scrape off easily enough, is there a "clever" way to remove it?

2. As the formation of this paste seems to be recurrent, and it is messy (it drops as white powder, like chalk dust onto the berths), is there a way of preventing it forming in future?
