I forgot to remove the windlass command/switch from the anchor well a couple of months ago. The result is that the plug/pins are a bit corroded and there is no current passing through now. Whilst it is going to be relatively easy to clean up and polish the pins (males), what is the best way to clean the holes (females) in the socket?

You could try some switch / contact cleaner, Servisol, Maplins own etc and a fine gas welding nozzle broach, they are both useful things to have around anyway so nothing wasted in the trying. I have had some success with that method.

It is quite common for the female part to become corroded or unservicable, mostly through lack of use but sometimes through mis-use of the male part. My father's advice was that full servicability could usually be restored through the application of flowers, perfume or a good meal out in a restaurant of her choice. In extreme cases only one may have to resort to jewellery.
