I have seen a rather nice Corribee Mk1 just up the road and wanted to ask if anyone has one of these boats, or has owned one previously. This is the grp Mk1 by the way. On Sailboat data the displacement is given as 508Kg whereas the Mk2 is given as 907Kg is this correct, is the Mk2 that much heavier than its predecessor? Apart from the balanced rudder issues, is there anything I should look out for? Any idea how the Mk1 performs? FInally, what size outboard would I need? Hope someone can assist me.....many thanks.

Plenty of info on http://www.corribee.org including stuff on weaknesses to look out for. I have a Mk 2 and use a Tohatsu 6hp long shaft which seems a popular choice among owners and has always been plenty powerful and frugal on petrol...

Hi Windway, i have never owned a Corribee, but i helped a person, (who with his wife became great friends to me), to sail a mk1 corribee from Torquay harbour to Emsworth. It was in 2002, Keith had just bought the boat and needed someone to give him a hand. We set off in the afternoon across Lyme bay. As iv'e never been on the inside passage at Portland, we stayed 5 miles off. We spent the night at sea, went over St.Albans ledge, which was a bit hairy (if i remember right i think it shows a firing range in that area). We made it to Yarmouth by morning, had a shower then on to Cowes where we spent that night. Next day we went through the entrance to Chichester and then on to Emsworth. In all this the little Corribee behaved beautifully. It sailed really well, felt very safe and we didn't have a single problem. I think it is a great little boat. I hope this is of some help to you. Best regards.

My apologies, i just saw baggywrinkles link to the corribee info. The corribee a sailed on had a fibreglass deck/cabin, so could not have been a mk1.

Thank you for you replies which are very helpful. The boat is definitely the MK1 GRP and the pix on the Corribee web site in the History are just like the boat I am considering. I have read about various exploits and voyages in the MK2, but there is very little online about this earlier marque. I am going tomorrow for a closer look, so will let you know how I get on.

A young and adventurous contributor to these forums, Nathan Whitworth went halfway round Britain while living onboard in his Mk 1 and wrote it up in a most engaging blog. The final version, onkudu.com, seems to be dead but the earlier version. https://onkudu.wordpress.com/, is still up and running.

I would love to know what he's been up to since and if he's still sailing. I really enjoyed his videos they were an "inspiration" to buy a corribee, although I decided on something bigger in the end the corribee was the spark.

I had a brief correspondence with him a couple of years back. He was working in London then and not sailing any more, I think. "On Kudu" was always a great read, artless in the nicest sense and written for the love of it. My Hunter 490 (no reasonable offer refused) has Kudu's original single-burner Origo stove!
