Hi,

My Icom IC 421 VHF packed up recently so I purchased an almost exact replacement, an Icom IC 411.

The problem I found was that the VHF cable connector didn't fit the replacement unit so after doing research on Icoms website I ordered a PL-259 twist on plug/connector, the idea would be to cut the former ill fitting connector from the cable and solder on the new.

The PL-259 landed today and to my horror the core is too thick for the female socket on the back of the unit.

So my question is would anyone know what is the correct connector to use, or, any guidance to suggest any other solutions please.

Many thanks.

When you have removed the bit of the plug that the last owner left in the radio for you and you hare putting your new plug on the antenna lead please be sure to not just TWIST ON but to solder the centre wire to the pin. Other wise you may be back next week telling us no one can hear you :)

Brilliant and thanks ?

Good it is fixed.

FYI and confirmation: The manual pg 42 indeed states a PL-249 connector and it should look:
