Wow.... Not just Family !
Across, from the Daughters house, a 75 yr old guy died !
A sister in law, is not expected to survive the night, due to Corona & high blood pressure & diabetes !
Friggin doctors told her, they would not rescucitate !
Sorry, but I can understand the rest o the family, being told, but not the patient ?
Like she needs every bit of encouragement, to carry on ?
Yet , gets slapped down??
A serving granddaughter in London barracks, is Isolated !
May Thor ..Odin.. & Freja :
Look after you all !
In this terrible time !
Stay Safe !

do you think that your sister in law would be grateful if she was offered the hydrochloquine thing if she was offered it,

At the moment, she is incapable of speech, on oxygen, not quite there !
Also, she is hundreds of miles away, so Im not allowed to travel up there, should a funeral be neccessary !
Not even her husband, is allowed ,to travel the distance, to the hospital, even though he is in the vicinity.
I do not know how hospitals communicate, with relatives.......
However.... If her Husband was asked......... Then Yes.......... he would opt, for anything, that might keep his wife, of 40 yrs
Alive !
May Thor ,Odin & Freja, protect you all !

Nice. These "friggin doctors" as you so eloquently put it are the only people standing between you and death. Really good to hear you have such a high opinion of them. Perhaps you'd llke to swap places.

You obviously did not read the whole of my post !
I said, I can understand, the family, being told, of the reality of things !

However, I cannot understand, that they would also tell a patient.....Who is struggling to stay alive .........
That they dont expect her to survive !

That is the last thing , a seriously ill patient, needs to hear !

So yes, the friggin doctors, should have given her words of encouragemnent !
Not...
Oh, if you get too bad, then we will not rescucitate you ?

What part , of that ? Do you not understand ?

I hope she is still hanging in there?

I hope she is still hanging in there?

Thanks mate !
Yes, she has been sick, for 19 days, been hospitalized for 9 , the last 2 days, her husband has been told :
They dont expect her to survive the night.
However, she is still hanging on.
Scans have shown, that large areas of her lungs, are destroyed !
So there is a possibility, that she might have to be on oxygen for the rest of her life, assuming she survives, she is 66.
The much younger, serving granddaughter, 25, has been released from confinement, and is recovering, slowly.

I just hope for the best, for all you, out there, with infected relatives.
Hopefully most of you, will stay, infection free !
Good Luck !

I am still waiting, for your reply ? Since perhaps you have read my whole post, now ?

Are you an expert on palliative care or do you just like reading your own typing?

As someone who has had to have this discussion with many people nearing the end of life but in a different situation (in our case old age) the decision about what to say (or not) depends on the attitude of people concerned. If someone asks a doctor or carer whether they're dying, he/she should tell the truth in most circumstances. Things got complicated some times when we had residents asking that we not tell the next of kin they were dying and the same next of kin asking us not to tell mother but in general, it became a family discussion.

My experience may surprise some but, discussion about withdrawal of medication, dnr and funeral or burial wishes were much easier with the person concerned than with next of kin who more often than not admitted they had never had the discussion and didn't know the answers.

Sister in law died early this morning.
Despite being on oxygen, the virus had destroyed large parts of her lungs.
So the oxygen just was not getting into her body.
Hopefully , this lockdown, will prevent further infections.
Stay Safe
Good Luck
All of you !

I understand the concerns, frustration, anger, and other emotions, but why post on the liveaboard thread?

Firstly, my condolences to Still Afloat, not a happy outcome.

I share the concerns about the increasing number of misplaced posts on all three main forums and the way people like to go off topic too frequently and the amount of bitching between certain posters. Maybe the mods need to pull their fingers out and remind people.

I agree with Graham in the 16 years I been posting here all the sudden there been a number of trolls who only interested is to find some thing in any posting to start arguments about or name calling ,
Lots of people are bored but let's end this .
Condolences to stay afloat , very sad time for everyone involved.
