We're about to move to SE Cornwall. Plan to keep the boat at Millbrook.

Any suggestions on good clubs to join for cruising? Also like the odd blast in the laser.

I hear there is sailing on the Siblyback lake, anyone know what it's like?

Good Move.

Where are you going to live?

The Torpoint Mosquitos has a good reputation for being friendly. Further up river is the Saltash Sailing Club which I know little about, but is active in all branches (yachts, dinghies, cadets) and then Cargreen Yacht Club, of which I am a member, which is very active with a large and experienced offshore cruising membership, has a good cadet section and a fleet of club dinghies.

There are, I believe, nearly 30 yacht and sailing clubs in the Tamar Estuary so there should be something to suite.

Re: Good Move.

we're going to be near callington so cargreen will be pretty close though there are some power cables just downstream that are a bit close for comfort (19m clearance, 18m air draft!)

i met the commodore of the torpoint mosquito and it sounds pretty good. i hear they have a cat section.

Re: Good Move.

yes, 62ft, and that's after i had 1/2m taken off the original design height so i could get up the u.s. intracoastal waterway. amazing how it adds up. the 15m wing starts 3m above the waterline! and i'm off sailing tomorrow in another kelsall with a 23m freewing!

looking at the chart of the tamar, it shows a 19m power line 1/3 mile below cargreen and another, 16m, a mile above, with 'small craft moorings' in between. last time i went up the river it was low water and i considered going past the first cable but chickened out.

were you discounting the 19m cable or are the moorings down by the tavy entrance?

Re: Good Move.

That's extraordinary. Yes, they are on the chart but I can't picture them. I'm down there next weekend so I'll have to check them out.

They are probably so high they don't register in my mind having a mere 13m air height.

We are moored above Cargreen at Weir Quay and have 15m mast height and go under the power lines easily.
There are considerably larger boats at weir quay also.
The power lines are not at their lowest over the main channel

Me too. There was a 58-foot schooner with a very tall mainmast moored above the wires all last season and it didn't have any trouble. You could call Mike Hooton, the boatyard owner and operator on 01822-840474 and ask him.
