Cornwall to the mud

Am considering overwintering on the east coast this year and was thinking of turning right instead of left and going up the Irish Sea, round the Mull and up through the Caledonian Canal and then down the East Coast. Has anyone experience of doing this and if so any words of wisdom on the folly or otherwise of so doing?

Don't. It's quite crowded enough as it is and the only marina there is rubbish. There's nothing to see and the locals prone to violence.

Ashore or afloat?

Winter before last I found that Titchmarsh Marina in the Walton Back Waters was the most economic for a winter marina mooring.
