Cornwall moorings

Heya newbie here...
We presently liveaboard a 60x10ft widebeam canal boat on the Norfolk Broads but are looking to re-locate to Cornwall.
The question is are there any liveaboard moorings in Cornwall which would accommodate us?
Our size and wanting residental status seems to be a problem!
Any ideas gratefully received x
 
We don't have any places afaik for such a boat. No canals to speak of, and few harbours and estuaries.

You might get lucky Plymouth way, but I can't think of anywhere tbh.
 
multihull center ,plymouth though watch out for locals with pitchforks if you arrive before the shelter in place laws are ended .
vessel should be seagoing and able to handle 2m waves,forget trying to make the trip in a flat bottomed boat,trucking it would be your only option,most mooring options dry out at low tide so should be able to take the bottom

Welcome to the forum, Krays. Berthing a canal boat in Cornwall might seem a bit Kraysy to some, but if you simply want to berth it and live there, you might find a suitable harbour.
There's a Pub in Penzance called The Longboat. Why not try there?

There are a few barges around, and even a narrow boat I saw moored up down the river at Helford, so some do make it down here.

Penryn seems popular. A view on Google maps will show you.

Actual residential with planning etc is unlikely.

penryn is full up as there are not many residential moorings here and you will probably have to pay council tax if one became available,they also all dry out at low tide
you might get into a boatyard on the hard though and get on the waiting list for moorings,although unlikely you would be allowed to live onboard a council mooring other than intermittent weekend use.
freemans wharf,islington wharf and ponsharden boat yard are the only places that cater to livaboards,prua has 6 residential beach moorings,but they rarely become available.
falmouth harbour commisioners have visitor moorings but expensive and most likely unsafe for a narrow boat in an easterly gale.
gweek would be your best bet,but in the water you would spend most of your time dried out at a funny angle!

Agree about Gweek, I spent some time there over the last couple of years, livaboard community is growing, saw some unusual vessels including barges and narrow boats...
 
60' on a marine mooring is going to be very pricey compared to inland, and yeah I would not want to be on a narrowboat in a big wind anywhere but the most sheltered spots. Even 1/2m chop on the beam can get uncomfortable, widebeam maybe a bit more stable?

We also saw a narrow boat on the Helford last summer. Quite unexpected.

Id also suggest Gweek, and maybe look at Penzance in the locked basin.

If you are still looking, Gweek have availability residential moorings. Already one similar widebeam moored here.
