The clear coating on the cork deck of my Westerly Oceanmaster is showing signs of wear and tear.

I have had a recomendation to use a two-pack polyurethane coating to recoat.

Has anyone any comments or experience to share on this topic?

I imagine most people have no experience of cork decks! Is this a planked "fake teak" cork deck? If so, try a PM to OR4751, who has something similar on his boat.

If it's Stazo cork you'll get best results by sanding it and exposing new cork. It will look like new again, and the caulking will be level with the cork again.

Thanks Adamastor

It's not specifically Stazo as far as I know - it consists of cork planks fixed to make it have the appearance of a teak deck.

Sanding might be the answer, but quite a bit more elbow grease unfortunately.

I will try a test section when I get back to the boat next month, I would prefer a natural finsh to a semi-gloss urethane.

rodsuter, are the cork panels with a diamond pattern or texture pattern? If so you are talking about Treadmaster. Can you post a photo as confirmation of the cork panels and the problem. Treadmaster will need to be replaced after about 30 years as it does not last indefinitely. On my Westerly Fulmar I removed the Treadmaster from my cockpit seats and found the start of osmosis underneather as moisture was being trapped by the adhesive.
