Corinth canal

If you are arriving from East tie up to high quay (watch for wash and fenders jumping out) go to office with all papers and pay (extra on Sundays). Wait till told to proceed in convoy. Need to keep up at least 6 kts if behind freighter as props create turbulent water - washing machine effect. If too slow you get shouted at by bridge man at other end!
Approach from West, potter round outside breakwater till signal to enter with traffic lights. Usually this is when a freighter is present or a group of yachts are waiting.
Use VHF Ch 11 to contact office.
Heikell explains quite well.
Interesting passage but hot.

Per metre travelled it is the most expensive in the world, unless anyone knows better?

But worth it!

John

PS. It has the only dropping bridge I have ever seen. At the eastern end you wait at the lights until the bridge slides down into the water and you then pass over the bridge into the canal.
