Anyone any info about Airsea out of Corfu. The igounmenitsa bus to Lefkas only runs once a day and not at all on weds and thurs which are the days I need! I see in "Preveza Flights" thread, Tarona says they are available to charter at short notice. Anyone know prices and if they are going to to regular flights?

I was referring to charter flights from Preveza to UK. don't know whether the seaplane is running anymore.

I heard they went bust which is a great shame because I loved the hop from Corfu to Lefkas.

Speaking of going Airlines going bust, if you have any Olympic Air flights booked watch them closely. They've stopped flying London - Athens and we had to be rebooked onto Aegean fo our 2 trips booked for this year. Its a long swim to Leros so I hope they dont let me down on that one as well :(

no change. no flights last year at all and it seems now defunct sadly
Yes seaplanes are always a romantic means of flight, but seawater and aircraft everything, just don't go together.

The cost/passenger mile is almost x2.5 that of running a comparable size landplane.

James' point - I'd be leery about any reliance on Olympic - they're even dodgier, financially, than the Greek government. As Affinite makes the point - hope you paid by credit card, 'cos then you'll be able to get your money back.

As in the UK many of these subsidised, socially-necessary means of transport are due for the chop.

Brits at Leros advise me that the best way to get there is to fly Thomson (Thompson?) to Kos, then 2-hour ferry to Leros. Two disadvantages are that the timings are not great and there is a good deal of waiting about at Kos, and that the catamaran ferry normally berths on the east side of the island, whereas the yacht marinas are on the west. Only 5 km apart though.

seaplane

No , sadly they stopped flying last year , BUT .. there is a new airline which is flying around the Ionian called Sky Express , we have booked a trip to Corfu in May ,45 euros 1 way . its a new operation founded by ex- Olympic airways staff .
I see them flying in /out every day here in Kefalonia twin engined - no floats !

We have booked Easyjet flights to Kos (LGW Weds and Sats this year) and then plan to get the catamaran or a ferry to Leros. Arriving at Ay Marina by catamaran is no worse than arriving at Leros airport if you are based in Lakki. We did both routes last year and preferred a cheap night's hotel in Kos followed by completion of journey the next day, to between four and seven hours overnight at Athens airport. There is also the possibility that the catamaran will come into Lakki due to bad weather.

I didnt know that

Didnt know easyjet were flying to Kos - thats useful to know.
Any recommendations for the cheap hotel in KOS ?
Do any taxis hang around at Ay Marina and at the airport during arrivals time or do we have to prebook somehow? (we are flying in but also have familly coming by ferry) Our boat will be at Lakki.
Thx Steve

You could hire a 1 way car from Europcar Igomenitsa and drop it off in Levkas or Nidri. Costs us around 75 euro and is great value considering we use it to do an hour or two shopping before we return it.
Th guy in Igoumenitsa is very helpful and their office is right opposite the ferry arrival from Corfu.

We stayed at the Maritina Hotel in Kos last year. The rooms had all been refurbished but the foyer and dining room were very outdated. Still B & B was fine for about 55 euros for two of us. It's on Vironos Street and a short walk from the street where the airport bus leaves from. You can walk to the ferry from that area.
I think that there are several cheap hotels in Kos Town itself but in other resorts the hotels are bit more touristy and expensive.
There are usually taxis at Ay Marina but you can phone for one. To get a taxi to come out from Lakki just phone the Lakki office, it's (+30) 22470 22550. They are usually very helpful.

Sky Express Web site error

Sky Express (www.skyexpress.gr) flies between Corfu, Aktio/Preveza, Kefallonia, and Zakinthos (and Crete). Each leg is about 50 Euros (except to Crete at 90 Euros). More information about traveling to and throughout the Ionian is here: www.theionian.com/p/travel-schedules.html

Useful to know of another option - shame that I get a system error when trying to view the schedule on the Sky Express web site :(
