Corfu Boat hire??

Well seeing as we no longer have a boat to use for our summer holidays we thought we'd book a week in the sun and have decided on Corfu.

Whilst looking at resort info I happened to stumble accross a couple of websites who hire out boats, only small ones, but that'll suit us fine for a couple of days /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif only trouble is the websites don't give any details of how much it costs and I haven't had a response to my e-mails yet.. so anyone got any idea, or any recommendations??

We'll be staying in Dassia so thought this place in Dassia might be a good option although I'd prefer to get something more like this! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

You will have no problem hiring a boat from Dassia. All the bays along the coast have boat hire operators. If you have booked with a hotel or a villa management company they will be able to arrange it for you. Mostly they are of the type in your first link.

We went to Sidari on the North West of the island. We found that all powerboats in the area available for personal hire were limited to 30hp. Also if there is any chop whatsoever give it a miss. We went last year and a mistral was blowing, the crew had had enough after a couple of hours - the boats are only designed for calm waters. All in all a bit dissapointing.

Take a photo of the boat and more importantly the prop before you set off or you will loose your deposit. Common scam - you have damaged the prop and suddenly they cant understand English.

My other half's parents have a place in Corfu so we go every year and hire a boat.

Cost's anything from 80 Euro/Day for a bit of a naff one to E120 a day for a nice one.

Make sure you haggle, you don't get a lot off, but a bit's nice.

Best boats we found were in North East of island, (bit further up than Dassia) it's nicer there as there are more bays etc and you can just jump in whenever you like although water is colder than the Middle to South East side (Benitzes etc).

North West in Paleokastritsa the boats are nice and the bays nice, but because of cold springs the water is BLOODY FREEZING there.

I have to disagree with the comments re props however - they've never tried it on once with us and I think the Corfiots are a bit more honest than many (although it's probably not a bad idea to photo the prop anyhow!). As long as you check the prop and agree damage first tehy are fine - I've never not checked so I don't know if they'd try and fleece you if you didn't - certainly the ones we hired they show you the prop first and all the boats we've had the props have been fine.

There are boats with up to 60HP but they do cost a lot to hire and we've never bothered with them.

Also, always book in advance - they don't always have spare boats in peak season - just pop down and put your name down the day before and pay a few euro deposit.

Just had an e-mail back from this company but they want 320 Euro's for one day's hire, does that sound about right to people?

Had hoped for something a bit less than that /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
