Cordless polishing of a GRP hull

It's easy to forget the old threads...seems like you've had quite a few goid adventures with the sanding disc since! :)
Did you ever manage to get a chance to try it polishing the hull?
LW - was thinking if a hand polish but there are a few nasty scrapes so i was going to fill them and then try 3M medium compound and wax.
Really not sure if thats the right choice. Have tried a few searches to see if theres much info or experience of the 3m Medium and Wax but can't find much.
I have Laser centreboards and rudder blades which are always handy for practising on, as I don't worry what they look like so long as they are smooth and shiny. Always best to get familiar with whatever you're using on something less precious.
These days I think there is much less need for coarser compounds, because there are very fine grades of wet and dry sandpaper available. I'm talking about GRP not your Porsche or motorbike!
I've not tried the 3M product, but most things they put their name to are pretty good.

Good advice about useing something less precious. The 3m stuff is called Perfect It Medium cutting compound and Wax in one. From reading a few things it looks like by hand might be the way to start? I have a couple of scratches that havent gone to the fiberglass but are showing white beneath the blue gel coat. Maybe about 2mm deep.
