Cordless Drill, Lidl, Thursday

As i recall, my Bosch was not a great deal more and has served me well for several years. I had to have a new battery last year and have now altered my charging regime.

Bought a Bosch 14.4 volt drill with 2 Nicad batteries in B&Q a year ago - after six months one battery was totally useless (30 seconds use would flatten it) and the other not that much better. B&Q refused to replace batteries, saying they were not covered by the warranty. Pity as for the minute or two the one battery holds out it's a nice little drill.

I got new battery from interweb, so far so good. They gave me some advice on charging (I'd been leaving on charge for a day) they recommended 3hrs max from flat. I now use a timer.

They also have a right-angle drill attachment.

I bought one in a previous promotion and it's incredibly useful on board for inaccessible jobs.

I would be really interested in that if it is any good. I bought a Riobi one. Unbelievably crude in construction and fell apart as did the second. (They came from and were badged by Machine Mart who replaced the original).

I bought a Ryobi SDS a while ago and its been brilliant. The bits are a bit blunt now but it will still batter its way into my rock hard walls leaving a clean hole. Its got a good length cable and a light to show its on. I'm well pleased.

I've used an ancient B&Q 12v drill on board with a lead to the 12v socket. Impossible to get a new battery for it so converted it. If anyone is interested I've got another two(I think) surplus again with dud batteries if anyone is interested for the cost of P&P.

12 volt Li-ion battery so better than some cheapies that only have NiMH batteries although only 12 volt so presumably not the grunt of a higher voltage one

I wonder if being 12 volt it would adapt to running off the boat battery.

Also Thermal socks http://www.lidl.co.uk/cps/rde/xchg/lidl_uk/hs.xsl/index_38174.htm

Thanks for the steer Vic. I bought one and am impressed. Variable speed and two gears,
The gimmicky led light isn't a gimmick either. If and when the battery dies, I'll run it off the ship's batteries.

Keep up the bargain spotting or do you have shares?!
