Last time I was in Chi Marina I had Coral worm (somehow) stick to my anti-fouling. I'm going back there in 2020 so I'd like to choose a pontoon that has less of it. I'll also be a be more generous with the antifouling.

Is there an area of the Marina that suffers less from it?

(If nobody knows I'll just look at the pontoon floats and judge by them.)

When we visited between Christmas and New Year there were diesel pumps emptying standing water from adjacent fields into the far end of the marina basin 24/7.

Judging by the colour of the water I suspect all the nutrients/sediment being pumped in it is going to make this year quite challenging for anti-foul. The good news is the water level in the marina seemed higher than usual.

Yes, thought the same when I was watching the Sewerage plant at Apuldrum discharging (mostly) untreated Sewerage straight into the Harbour when we had the bad rain a couple of weeks back.

I don't spend enough time using it in 'proper' salt water outside the Harbour which seems to stops the growth that thrives in brackish marina water getting established. Given that I need to be a bit more disciplined about mid season scrub-offs.

Local knowledge suggest that the northwest corner (Pauper's Corner) is less likely to suffer from coral worm.

It will be interesting to see what the closure of the lock for most of Feb and some of March does to the water. I suppose this not really the growing season for green stuff but don't know about worm.

Sadly, the most North Westerly berth they offered me is my old berth where I picked up all the Coral worm last time! :(

I hadn't considered the impact of that. I'll be finding out soon enough.

Woo, this is odd. I was in Chi marina for a 16 months (April 2017 til August 2018) and had very little fouling at all. Just a bit of slime, jet washed off at the mid season lift in a few minutes.

Historically Chi is famed for low fouling because the water is fresh/brackish and people tend to sail on salt water so there's no stable habitat for stuff to grow. I didn't have heavy weed fouling, just Coral Worm.

I also thought Coral worm didn't grow on antifouling, but there it was!

We have been in Chi M. for 4 years. During the first season at least once a month we had to clean our speed log as it was siezed with coral worm. After the first season we were lifted out for antifouling. We were very surprised not to see any coral worm on the antfouled areas, just on the transducer paddle wheel.
Against the advice of Raymarine, we have antifouled the paddle wheel and had no problem with coral worm worm since.

Do you not replace the log with a blanking plate then the boat is not in use?

We've just left Chichester after a year during which the boat did not move at all. Just before we left, we had it lifted for a check over and wash - and there was virtually no fouling of any kind. It was treated with International Trilux which was on its second year. We were moored at the eastern end of the marina - very close to the pumping station that drains the salt marshes.

Sandy

Never used a blanking plate when the boat isn't used. Only use the plastic plug when inspecting/cleaning the paddle wheel. After our first season never had a problem.
