Need to fit some foamback lining down in the quater berths on clean bare flowcoat.

Can't use a fan as no leccie, also don't fancy a fume mask as I'll be down the hole too long, as they say :)

Evo-Stik safe 80, I think would do but it's only sold in 5L tubs, too much and too pricy.

Copydex, is a latex?

What does the panel think?

Shall I be the guinea piggy?

I don't think it'll last. It is latex based and will probably rot in the marine environment. Have you already bought the foam? I saw a pretty good self adhesive one at the boat show from Hawke House in Gosport. They also have the proper glue and instructions.

I've used PVA adhesive for the repair of foam lining, which is, I believe, a generic for Copydex. Lasted the 3 years but I've sold the boat and I believe it is still up. Does stick, despite what it says on the tin but does require support while the glue dries. I used thin sheets of ply held in position with boat hooks for the support.

I dont think Copydex will do.

Another vote for Hawke House Ltd as suppliers of adhesives ( and much much more) http://www.hawkehouse.co.uk/

If you are using solvent based adhesives you need a mask for organic solvent vapours .. Hawke House can supply a 3M 4521 mask. There is a limit to the concentration it will handle so good ventilation is still necessary

PVA and Copydex are totally different glues. Copydex is latex based and PVA is basically wood glue.

We've used copydex on two boats with failed headlinings. It's messy and it stinks but it does work. Buy 5 litre cans and follow the instructions. We have had no failure after over 10 years on the headlinings.
Don't get it in your hair (arms or head, it hurts getting it out!).

I had an issue with Copydex in a Landrover in the Middle East. With high insolation values, the temp of the interior reached >50C when moored, oops, parked in the sun.

It just melted and all the velcro strip fell down.

Best to ask if the adhesive you are choosing can withstand heat.

I used copydex on the side lining of my old Westerly 25 and it held well for years. Lots of other stuff I tried just melted the material.

It's the foam backing that fails usually on that stuff. If you get 10 years you are doing well. I used bathroom carpet for the hull sides in the aft cabin & that worked well.

It looks good, is warm & condensation ceases to be an issue. It is also cheap & easy to source - therefore easy to replace if it is ever damaged or stained.

Have just relined our Prout Snowoogse, felt backed carpet in the cabins, foam backed vinyl in the saloon and galley, closed cell foam backing with self adhesive one side then mural mousse to the self adhesive over in the loo.No smell and easy to fit.
Next relining, if ever, will use the closed cell foam with Self adhesive then unfoamed vinyl , it's so easy and better insulation, no mess and you can use spray adhesives.
Contact Hawke House Ltd, tel: 02392588588 ( I am a customer that's all)
They are the most helpful people.
Glues used from them)
SAF 111 slop on with a brush, very smelly but excellent on to hull
Trade Tack spray on adesive for the vinyl and carpet.

Make sure all old adhesive and foam is stripped off, Hawke House have a grinding disc that rips through this stuff but doesn't destroy the fibreglass, can't remember the name but you will need a few, fits on to angle grinder

Messy, smelly job but the effort will be worth it, take shortcuts and it will be down round your ears in a couple of years time!!!

Good luck, Mike

If using sray adhesive please be aware that it is highly inflammable. So ventilate the cabin well & TURN OFF ALL NAKED LIGHTS - INCLUDING ANY PILOT LIGHTS

A boat blew up a year or so back cos a couple forgot that the gas fridge (or water heater, or some such) had a pilot light burning. Both were injured & the boat burned to the waterline

Tried all sorts of things in past -finally some low mod silicolne sealant(high mod more flexible would work as would no nails etc.)
It is sticky enough to hold the lining-great if its a head lining-until it cures and stick to glassfibre or a host of other materials like glue.
