Coppercoat on Thames

Hi, No not a new town, but wondered if anyone was using Coppercoat anti fouling on the non tidal Thames and what the experience has been.

I am aware of the need for correct application and also the re-action between salt and copper at sea, but can find no references to Coppercoat in freshwater. It is being recommended to me as a way of avoiding the bi-annual/tri-annual anti fouling I have been following. Cost saving if it works on the Thames would be three years, so I am seriously thinking about it.

Your experience of Coppercoat would be appreciated.

I'm sure everyone has their preferences, but I've had my boat on the non tidal Thames for over 10 years and don't bother with anti fouling. The boat comes out every couple of years or so for an outdrive service and cleans up pretty easily with a quick presssure wash.

That said I have a 5.7l petrol engine and so am grateful for anything that might stick to the bottom and slow things down

I agree - pressure wash every couple of years (mainly slime) and a quick coat of conventional a/f around the waterline does fine and saves a lot of effort and money.

I think that's about right, not much sticks to the bottom on the non-tidal, just a bit of algae around the waterline, that's all

Complete waste in fresh water.
Don't agree with no anti-foul. I had a boat that had no coatings and it had a severe case of calcium deposits that were hell to remove.
All you need is a coat of "Cruiser" anti-foul pressure washed and recoated every 2 or 3 years.
Coppercoat is good, but totally over the top in fresh water.

I never used antifoul in 2 years on the Thames. Powerwash and a quick scrub was all that was needed once a year

An annual dip in the water with a stiff brush around the waterline does me, no anti foul. The hull stays reasonably clean, but my outdrives are a magnet for marine growth.
