Hi everyone. Those with a long memory might recall that we were looking for a yard to repair our Coppercoat in the Caribbean last year. Illness intervened and changed our plans, so we are now headed to the US east coast and STILL looking for someone reputable to repair the Coppercoat. Does anyone have any knowledge of yards with specific experience on the US coast, anwhere from the Chesapeake to Boston? The irritating thing is that we don't need a complete job, just some areas re-doing where the UK yard made some mistakes with preparation (they are being very honerable and paying for everything). We are flying back to the UK for July and are trying to make advance arrangements for the lift & paintwork, so hoping one of you can point us in the right direction.
Thanks in advance,
David, s/y Goldcrest, www.inwoods.org

The Americans believe Coppercoat is Snake Oil!

I hope you find what you need, but I suspect it might not be possible.

You might find Airfreighting the Coppercoat difficult.

Some Americans might think that. Some think they've been abducted by aliens. Contrary to myth Coppercoat is not banned in the US; in fact I seem to remember its being specifically EPA- and Coastguard-approved.
If the OP pops along to the Coppercoat web site he'll find contact details for the US distributor: http://coppercoat.com/contact/overseas-distributors
I daresay they can answer the OP's query. They're in Florida.

Hi Mac, I know Coppercoat is OK in the USA, but was unaware of the distributor.

A couple of years ago I posted on the IPHOMEPORT about our positive experience of Coppercoat.

It was obvious from the replies that the forumites were very sceptical-one used the expression "Snakeoil" and said in his vast experience all antifoulings were shot within 2 years.

I reminded him that his was the country that put a man on the moon, and not to be so conservative.

With a US distributor the OP has got a good chance of getting fixed up-I hope so.

The Hinckley Company, Hinckley Yachts? Thier in Southwest Harbor Maine. Call Elliot, he's the yard manager 401-640-6408 he can probably help you. Pettit makes a antifouling paint called Coppercoat so you may have to explain. By the way we don't think it's snake oil, only way too expensive for anything related to copper when paints such as International Intersleek are available. Intersleek does not depend on anything toxic. It's so slippery nothing can stick to it, even tape for masking the waterline. It remains on the vessel indefinitely only requiring repair if it has been mechanically damaged (scraped off). I've put it on US Coast Guard boats 12 years ago, they haul them, lightly wash off the bottom, change anodes and relaunch, year after year, in the North Atlantic. Good luck

Don't go anywhere near Hinkley. You will be ripped off. Additionally, you will have to undo everything they do and do it yourself, properly. They are a pain. 'Nuff Said.
