I have had copperbot on the hull and keels of my sailing yacht for 2 years and am very pleased with its performance so far. However due to a couple of scrapes along the seabed there are a few patches on the keels where the copperbot has come off and I have now have a few small areas of rusting keel showing what would be the best way the best way to treat these patches (BTW I do not have access to any more copperbot)

I should add that I have been told that ordinary antifoul will react adversely with the rest of the copperbot

Are you sure it's Copperbot? I thought that one had expired some years ago. Coppercoat is the usual choice.

I have been in exactly the same situation. I ran over a semi-submerged fishing float that was a few polystyrene blocks tied together with cable. As a result I put a deep scrape in my brand-new Coppercoated keel. By the end of the season the underlying iron was red rusty. I obtained a small patchup kit from Coppercoat, then ground the area back with an angle grinder, applied several coats of West epoxy, then the Coppercoat. This has been fully effective, although helped by the ideal application conditions in Greece.

I used West because I had some but an epoxy primer, as recommended by Coppercoat, would perhaps be better.

You're probably right - may well be coppercoat. Thanks for your response - just need to find somewhere I can buy a small quantity of coppercoat

Copperbot / Coppercoat repair

It is perfectly safe to use a dab of conventional anti-foul paint on top of (or next to) a treatment of Coppercoat. In the unlikely event that you can not get hold of any Coppercoat, then please go ahead and use an anti-foul paint of your choice.

But if you are in the UK we offer a mail order servcie, and we even do a 1/2 litre repair kit. The cost is £37.50 plus overnight delivery and Vat (making £54 all in). You can contact us via the website (www.coppercoat.com) or by calling 01258 861059.

By the way, it is Copperocat that you have. We called it Copperbot from the launch in 1991 until 1998, but becuase of Trade Mark issues we changed the name to Coppercoat at that time. Consequently for the the last 14 years it has been called Coppercoat.
