Copper coat 5th year lift out.

Another chore complete, lift out, wash, change anode,check stripper, polish prop...back in...time out of the water 1 1/2 hrs.

No weed or barnacles just a smooth slime, bottom of the keel with no coppercoat, loads of watersquirts and some barnacles, slapped some conventional A/F on which will hopefully sort that.

Very lucky with weather, light winds and sunny, now just starting to rain.

Seacocks are replaced when necessary with boat in water, not difficult. Out of water, inspection of skin fittings only. Hammer and scrape.

That's a good result on the Coppercoat Colin.

Another gentle step towards me making that same decision!

I've seen three out of the water now at Tollesbury with similar results, mostly slime which slides off with a pressure wash.

They guys at Tollesbury told me they've done 13 boats this year and have several more to do before the end of the year.

Does look like a Good Thing.

Qualitative observation... I think the appropriateness may be related to marina berthed boats, rather than us "swingers". Mid summer I took a trip to Shotley, and on the way there felt that Gladys needed a scrub with particularly boat speed reduced for a particular engine revs. On the return trip in very similar conditions, the boat speed had returned, so I reckon the marinas must develop a soup of antifouling ingredients that helps... I know of at least one boat at Mersea that has reversed his Copper coat....
