Copper bottom treatment

I think copper works on the barnacles, but i dont think it does alot for slimey weedy growth does it?
I looked into it and think it took at least 7 years to recover the costs.

Pendana was copper coated by her previous owner over 10 years ago when she was based in Alcudia.
All she gets in our conditions is a little weed growth at the water line which brushes off very easily with a stiff deck brush. There is a little slime on the hull when she gets lifted out every March but nothing to affect her performance. Wish I could find something that worked as good on the sterndrives - they get covered in mussels!

Interesting article coming up in one of the mags - think its MBY but might be the other one. Anyway, one of the staff writers has had their Sunseeker done with copper and it gained a knot or so in speed after it was done, and that was clean bum antifoul compared against clean bum copper - same fuel load etc done over a measured distance in both directions.

Anyone got any experience of this treatment? is it worth the cost?

2007 I had my Sunseeker portofino 31 soda blasted and used Coppercoat, on a DIY basis, bought the system direct and prepared the hull myself with help from two friends, at that time I bought 10 kilos/litres enough to do my particular hull as recommended by Coppercoat, they gave good advice/tips and watched the DVD more than once, it was a six hundred pound outlay plus the blast,it paid for itself in two seasons, only one moan, it doesn't like to touch mud, having said that, as long as the boat stays afloat, you'll only get a bit of slime, that is easily washed off or give her a blast at wot for 1/2 hour.:D

This is her in May this year off to her new owner, smooth as a baby's bum, and probably good for another six years. (coppercoat give a ten year life span for their product)
