On my boat, in a long forgotten locker, I've found a roll of copper, and a folded sheet of lead, both roughly 1mm thick. Apart from making an emergency 1v lemon battery, what possible use could they have?

Traditionally for making tingles. Patches to cover minor leaks in wooden hulls. Not much use on a GRP boat, but knowing the boat you have the original owner might have been an old seadog to whom tingles were a way of life. Just hope he has not left a tub of Stockholm Tar lying forgotten in a locker.

That makes sense. I'd have never guessed that to be honest.

I shall gift them to a classic owner. There's a couple of +100 year old boats in Preston.

Cheers.

The roll of copper sheet was used to carry RF ground to a radio plate. A lot of copper foil layed out under the bunks could simulate a ground on GRP boats. This in the days of HF SSB.

probably worth a good chunk of cash too Nathan!

Oh, bugger. Too late. Gave it to the marina who have a very, very old wooden work boat that's still, just, in service. They can tingle that and keep it going for a bit longer. I'm happier with than than money.

Man can not live on bread alone... he requires that classic boats be safe and sound to.
