Coolent & water mix?

I was advised over the weekend that I should be using distilled water not tap when mixing 3 to 1..........Is that right?

The book for my newish Volvo says that tap water can be used provided the concentrations of various substances are below certain limits. Otherwise deionised should be used.

Since I have no way of knowing what the levels of those substances are, it seemed safer to use deionised anyway. It wasn't expensive.

As prv says. In Wales, where the water is almost everywhere soft and contaminant free I use tap water. In Greece, especially Leros where the marina tap-water is undrinkable, I would use de-ionised or at worst bottled drinking water.
