Cooking with hot water....

ok, my new boat is a bit basic when it comes to the domestic features....Its an ex RNLI Lifeboat and the Galley consists of...a Hotwater boiler and a sink! Great for making cups of tea/coffee but that's about it! At this stage I wont describe the heads, best say there is no fittings through the hull...


What I would like from the collective is some suggestions from the collective for meals than can be produced with such limited facilities, (long term plan is to fit a few more creature comforts..but until then....,) ie using either hot or cold water! FYG the cold water used to fill the water boiler is kept in water containers under the sink..."manumatic" fill up!!

Plus one for couscous - put it in a bowl, add enough water to cover it plus half an inch, put a plate over the top and leave for ten minutes.

But can't you put a camping stove on a flat surface somewhere when moored?

if it has a metal sink use a 'throw away bbq'

One tip I was given many years ago when outdoor living was a joy, when cooking a meal and to save fuel ,time, washing up etc place each course in plastic "cook in" bags and the whole menu can be cooked in one pan of boiling water or a steamer. This means that whilst you are having the main course your pudding is being cooked . It also means that you don't have any dirty pans to wash and the bags can be rinsed out and used again. Bags easily obtained from all supermarkets etc.
 
Cous-cous is easily made with boiling water, and can have all sorts of things in it.

That's exactly what I eat 90% of the time. Think of it as a rice dish! Just add boiling water and let it soak for a few minutes, then add sauce.
