I have a two burner Origo stove on my boat and it is fab. But I need to have some sort of oven, there is no space for a 'proper' oven so I was thinking of buying either a COBB bbq or an OMNIA RECREATION OVEN. does anybody have experience of either of these?

I've expereinced some wonderful "one pots" cooked in my mates Cobb, as well as a competant roast chicken. It's better than the oven on my boat. Never heard of the Omnia though.

I've got both, and have used, and do use both.

They both work, but the Omnia ha a draw-back in the its design, circular, is a doughtnut shape, having a hole in the middle to circulate the heat. So you can easily heat up Cornish Pasties, for instance, because the shape of the pasty 'fits' the circular shape (standing them on one edge. You can easily oven cook a chicken breast, either by itself, or wapped in Parma ham for instance, because the shape suits the Omnia doughnut ring. It's impossible to, say. heat up a circular product as it won't fit.

I have roasted potatoes in one, parboiled for 10 minutes, then cooked in the Omnia for 40 minutes sprayed with oil (using an oil spray). So you could easily roast a chicken joint, with some roast potatoes on one burner.

So that's what I use when the weather's bad.

When the weather's good, I use the Cobb. I can stand it on the cockpit seat, with no danger of burning or marking the gel coat. It's big enough to take a whole chicken if I wish. I can cook potatoes, and veggies in its moat and the meat on top (I have the griddle type plate as well, (which gives that BBG type horizontal marks on the meat).

I should add that I have no room for an oven on my boat, but if I had, I would still have the Cobb.

The other advantage of the Cobb is... you can also take it ashore and BBQ on the beach.

We bought a cobb and are very pleased with it .Comments as above particularly not having to worry about damage to surfaces of your boat as outer skin remains cool .I think perhaps its a little small if cooking for more than say three people but we do like large steaks/portions .Food tastes good and easy to light/control and needs little tending during cooking process unlike an open BBQ .

We're Cobb fans, too. I don't know if you have the mains power, but a small combi microwave oven is useful, too. We have heard of 12v ones, but don't know what they are like.

Thank you all for your responses, I will be purchasing a Cobb very soon.

About the microwave idea, my boat is minimal and is quite compact , if I were to squeeze a microwave in her I would have to leave the wife at home!
