Who else refines chip oil to run vehicles?

I remember reading a company was fined 25,000 GBP due to using chip fat oil in his fleet of Taxi's a number of years ago some where up North.

Reason for fine - Loss in duty on Petrol or something like that.

A friend of my brothers uses it in his car.

And a court marshal offense. My father was 'prisoner's friend' to a fellow pilot who had lent his car to someone who then used avgas for the trip. Car was tested a week later and the owner charged.

Old chip pan fat runs no problem filtered in a blend with heating oil/keroscene in my oil fired central heating. Was going to collect free of charge from local hotels(others charge)
My house now runs on free wood but does take about an hour a day cutting enough to burn.
Never forget the concept behind Diesels engine was to run on peanut oil and was seen as a means of providing a power source in the third world.
My merc OM 636 will run on most things-my origional workshop manual lists reccomendations including soya oil, palm oil etc.

I thought Diesel's very first diesel engine ran on coal dust, not oil. It did run, but exploded after a while. Anyone tried running a Volvo D5 on a veg oil mix?
