Cookham Lock Cut Bridge

Here is a good one for all you big tall boys out there.

Between last weekend when we went down river and this weekend, they appear to have fitted a strengthening metal bracket under the bridge.

Problem is that it has now reduced headroom by approx 1inch.

Do they actually give a toss about their customers.......you decide..

Yes did notice it when went under today, level at plus 5-6 but we had a couple of inches to spare. I even asked the Lockie for the level who said nothing about the new metal plate.

Surely if an inch makes a difference then you have the wrong boat for the river. The water height varies by more than that within hours and the loading of the boat probably varies by the same.

i can drop my hood if i need more, my issue is that there was nothing to let anyone know and i could have ripped the whole canopy off if i hadn't been on the ball. They just dont get what service is.

You are of course right. A bit less tab would be better and probably save a bob or two on fuel.
You just need a few cruising mates capable of similar speed.
What sort of speed are you getting?

My friendly lockie tells me that no work has been done save for the brushing off of some rust to expose the structure of the bridge during an inspection.

And remember that, as published in the guide to the Thames, the river level can rise and fall by a metre in 24 hours. If your radar array is to high for the airdraft under the bridges, you have the wrong boat for the Thames. And most of the lockies, not to mention their guvnors, do give a toss about their customers but that is governed by Newton's laws of motion.

It looked like a crack has appeared in the bridge and this metal strip has been bolted across to stop the crack running.
Looked pretty new to me.....

Hmm - with my arch s/s down and radar hinged open I can just reach 12'6" but I'm trying to get back on the river! Maybe Cookham will be as far up as we can go then eh Mike!
