Even after violent treatment the wire pot supports on my cooker are in a mess with heavy rust pitting. If this wasn't on a cooker I would know what to do. Is there any way I can make these things look more presentable, given their location?

Are you sure it is just the pot supports that are rusted?

My cooker didn't look too bad but a few weeks ago it 'blew up' when I had put the kettle on.

Gas was escaping from the grill section and as I bent down to investigate it ignited in my face. I was very lucky and only got a singed hand and singed woolly hat. Cooker has now been replaced.

Unless they are stainless the answer is probably no. Just cheapy rubbish - have the same on my cooker. Replace them every couple of years.

I wouldn't mind that but I can't get spares. I've tried the usual companies but they don't stock such old parts any longer.
