Conwy Mob shake down cruise

Oh you have no idea how easily one can deceive oneself. They were brand new when they went in. Have less than 3 hours on them (sum total of 2020 use) and you want to replace them. Hindsight is wonderfull. Just remember each belt is about 30 bucks and each pulley around 90 bucks. So a quick count of 7 belts and 4 pulleys and two impellors or so...... that'll be 700 quid in service parts for 3 hours use. Whoaaaaa son, just hang in there and suck it and see. Hindsight.

So a little used impeller that was less than two years old trashed itself then? That is a concern - had ours changed with service this year - engineer said that whilst would provably last for several years he wouldn’t recommend going more than two. In your shoes I would probably have done the same. The scary thing is that unlike KADs, where they are easily changed, ours require an exceptionally long armed Gibbon capable of hanging upside down like a Fruit Bat for prolonged periods. Changing at sea is an absolute non-starter! ☹

Top report - looked like a great weekend, with even the weather playing ball!

We cant wait to get the England to Wales 'green light' so we can come and start commissioning the boat. ?

Impellers don’t like not being used as I understand it, it weakens the one vane that’s kept bent.

Yes, and belt pulleys should be changed with the belts and I recently reset all the belts on stbd engine when I did my water pump renewal a couple weeks ago.

BUT. They're new man, only got 3 hours on man, that's 700 quid man. And before you all point the finger of shame remember I am the one that routinely strips and replaces everything just because because it might and am mocked for that too. I think there will be lots of boats like me and even in our 3 boat posse I was not the only one. Take that as an early warning. All 3 boats had a raw water issue of some kind or the other beginning, during and after the trip.

Not a cheap game either way you attack it. Fortunately you had the spares available to get home (y)

Fingers crossed that is all the gremlins found for the foreseeable!

Spares is not something we normally fall short off. I have enough tooling on the boat to repair everything except the core block while at sea. To be completely self sufficient is my priority. The core block almost never fails, it's always the marinised ancillaries

I was only there to observe social distance as a Boris Disciple.
We too, observed from a distance, about 50 yds away on Saturday about 14.00 hours. The deployement of vessels at Pilots Cove ad the occupants therein. Enouraged us not to tarry. Already seen the vessel on fire at Conwy and a Motor Saior being owed in to Victoria dock by Porth Dinllaen lifeboat we thought 'enough' excitement' for one day. Only to get involved in 'another tow' later , more of that again one day. We were in the Nimbus (the one from Guernsey) Bruce. Yes, teething probems on that fine vessel too. One of the windscreen washers got a bit bocked
Theres always something with boats!???

If you learned to speak English instead of that native dialect you wouldnt have needed windscreen wipers in the first instance. And how rude not to enter anchorage and display your beverage wares for consumption in an act of hospitality. Not a single invite or howdy. Does your benefactor not have the rulez explained? What good are you as instructor if you dont teach local by-laws and etiquette ?

You Deganwy types are getting a bit uppity :cautious:
