My winches are Gibb Sheetmaster, perhaps 40 years old.
I've seen various accounts of the rubber attachments for some winches that convert them to self tailing. Is it likely they will fit my winches which look like this?

Barton "Wincher`s"

just fill the drum up to the rubber & no need to make the tail off, it will jamb up under the wincher ( or do a lightermans hitch over the drum )

I fitted a set of Winchers to my Lewmar 30s on my previous boat.
I found that they did a good job of holding the sheet on the winch, so you no longer have to cleat it off, but you can't really wind in a big length by just turning the handle, like a true self tailer, as the turns would bunch up on the drum. Handy for doing wee adjustments, better than a standard winch, but not really as good as a self tailer.

Don't be tempted to think that they will be the equal of a self-tailer, they are not. Considering how expensive they are I think they could be subject to the Trades Description Act. Very disappointing, I would put the money towards some ST winches.

I agree, we have them on Hilliard winches, they are ok for the job, but would be a poor substitute to ST on genoa winch`s
