Converted my Eberspacher to Kerosene today

What exactly do you mean by "setting the burn rate"? Mine is an Airtronic D4 Plus. All I do is press the button to switch it on, and set the desired temperature. What else should I be doing?

Not a user setting, it is an install and service setting, basically akin to adjusting the carburetor(s) on a car when they had them.

Dave, just so that we can better understand, what are the parameters that affect this setting please?
Presumably they all leave the factory set correctly so is it dependent upon the installation e.g. length of exhaust, slight variations in the pump pressure etc?

Can be a number of things, air motor speed which can be affected by sticky bearings, duct length and suitability to age, power available and the like. Poorly installed fuel system supply, fuel quality, fuel pump wear exhaust back pressure. Obviously the units are factory set but the install can affect the fan speed and or the power available. In truth most of the installs I do except near the limit of duct numbers are within spec but I still try to adjust to the lean end even then. Conversely the ones I service due to coking, difficult starting and many other reasons are invariably out of spec when tested prior to stripping, one of the reasons I take the pump off the boat for checking and not just the heater.

Used some 10mm OD braided clear tube, with a 5mm ID which slipped straight over the ticky pump inlet, then routed this to the fuel container, via a snug hole drilled in the filler cap, with a tiny notch to allow air in as fuel is drawn off.

Priming took several fault resets,

Not really surprising it took a lot of priming, you would be better advised to use 2mm bore hose, something like 5mm may well cause problems with back drain and formation of bubbles.

Not thought about this, but on what grounds would it. The fuel source is an oil of broadly similar flammability to diesel, and there is also spare engine and gearbox oil stored nearby too. No restrictions on what oils I have in my engine bay.

The Insurers have never asked if I have Eber heating, not placed any form of restriction on this aspect.
The heavier the oil the bigger the bang, that is why diesels are inherently more economical than petrol ones and petrol better than gas!
So paraffin, kerosene, which is 28sec oil, doesnt burn hotter, it burns leaner, therefore cleaner, thats why red diesel 35sec, used to burn dirtier that road fuel, red was a bit heavier with a bit of sulphur in it!
Dont worry about it, my D3 ran most of last winter on kerosene!
By the way I passed the garage this afternoon, kerosene now down to 59.9p ltr!

I have over the past 2 weekends ripped out the old heater ducting, it was delaminating & had a few breaks due it being rather fragile.
New ducting & insulation supplied by a local forumite, South London / East Coast based. he even delivered it to my boat personally on Saturday morning.
The system has been transformed, even the last outlet in the forepeak gets too hot to hold yer hand in front of the outlet for more than 30s. I did throttle back the head outlet as that was the warmest room in the house. well pleased.
