Control Freakery

If 70% did not vote.

that means that 70% of folks engaging in this particular thread really ought not to be whinging at all, having left it to the rest of us to make the decision on their behalf. Am perfectly happy to do so for a third time come early summer.
Please no applause or praise, just doing my civic duty. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: 30%

Well I did vote, and not for this bunch, and I will vote again, and not for this bunch. I can lead my life without being told what to do, and more to the point how and when to do it. How come very few lefties are tolerant of other peoples ideals? - which I believe is the 'control freakery' reference to this post. How come many 'right wingers' appreciate that other people have different views, but most lefties think other people have 'the wrong views' and need changing.
Back to the original point there is no way , EVER, whatever the reason that people should be imprisoned or punished without the full due process of law - if that means that one or two people slip through the net then so be it - that is the fundamental principle of law. Any system will always have 'errors' - you design the system to err on the right side. For example a fire alarm should always go off when there is a fire, and the permissable error is that it goes off when there is not a fire occasionally, NOT that it fails to go off when there is a fire. The judicial system is the same - the permissable error is that the guilty ocasionaly go free, not that the inoccent are locked up. OK its not perfect but its the only system we have, and its a darn site bettor than interring people on a politicans whim. The security and source endagering argument is a non starter, there is, and always has been provision for this in the judicial system with hearings, 'in camera' etc.
Anyway where was the war on terror when the IRA were blowing the hell out of London, Manchester and Warrington - where is the war on terrow now that the IRA is rearming and comitting bank robberies?
