Hello - new member, greetings to all. I live in the USA and just bought an early 70's Contest 31, the "non HT" version, and would love to hear if any members here have experience with this somewhat rare boat. The HT (racer) version is more common, I believe. I think about 100 of the standard cruiser/racer form were made with almost no information about them available, in large part due to a fire at Conyplex yard that destroyed much of the written records.

Lots of difference in the figures posted as you can see. I think it's a super mid sized cruising yacht and am curious about others' opinions and experiences. Thanks very much.

Hi & welcome to the forum,

I have a friend with a similar vintage 29', it's a good quality boat that would pretty much take you anywhere, more cruiser than racer I'd say. Congratulations and enjoy...:)
 
I owned and sailed a Contest 31 (hull no. 57 built in 1973) for about 7 years up until January 2020 when I, reluctantly, sold her for a former yacht I owned some 20 years ago. I found her to be a very dependable and capable sailing yacht. She was rigged for singlehanded sailing with all controls back to the cockpit. A seaworthy and comfortable yacht which was easy to sail and I felt, inspired confidence and reliability and dusty conditions. Strongly built and had my previous wooden yacht not come up for sale I would have doubtless kept her.
