Contessa 32 built mystery builder??

I once owned a very similar Contessa by whistlecraft. She was called Mary Hamilton, (previously called Mac 2) and I sold her in 1993 to a Dubliner. I remember the Contessa association being very snooty and refusing me membership even though I didn't intend racing her. She was a pretty boat though

You sold your boat to a Dubliner

The one the OP is buying has Dublin (as port of registration) on the transom
It is in Spain

The one Tradewind posts a picture of is in Spain and is Irish flagged.

Surely all the same boat, or a heck of a coincidence.

Is it the only one of its kind?
 
Nice looking boat but IIRC, the heads on the standard Contessa is "cosy". Must be even more so with that fore-shortened coachroof. Sitting room only!
Does the picture show a non-standard, deck-stepped mast with a tabernacle?
 
in mine the heads was in the forepeak flanked by 2 single berths. the tabernacle was supported by what i can only describe as a sort of scaffolding
 
Paddydog, I think it must be the same boat. You can just about make out the old name on the transom where the old lettering was, but I have yet to actually work out what it says. And yes, sitting room only in the heads!! Where did you keep her? The current owner sailed her over from Ireland to Spain in summer 2010.

I saw that up for sale on E-Bay recently,I was sorely tempted to bid, especially as it went for a very attractive price, after being relisted more than once, my concerns were the same as the original poster, but what the heck,great boat at a great price.

It has the sniff of an 10 grand boat about it to me.

I think you might buy all the disadvantages of a 32, and then some, whilst losing out on a few of the advantages into the bargain.

For example you could not race in series:

"The hull and decks shall be standard mouldings.......Class Rules"

Zegato has pointed out, in another post, that you can buy a standard class boat now for well under £20k. She is a pretty boat though, at the right price.
 
Im obviously biased... but i think any Contessa 32 under £20k must be in a bit of a state, i'd say £23-£28k for a tidy one with decent sails and engine

Indeed, but that is another matter.

I am with you, and would never recommend buying the cheapest C32 (or any other boat for that matter, if it can possibly be avoided)
 
I have stumbled across another one of these "contessa 32's", looking rather sorry for herself. Named Mystique, Dublin. Been digging around trying to figure out why the interior and deck plans don't match a Contessa 32....I now know why :)
