I have been trying to contact pcatterall by pm but don’t think he has noticed my pms. It used to be the case that an alert was raised in the home page “you have new messages” but the format of pms appears to have changed. Does this alert still appear? Other forums I am on send an e mail alert to my e mail when a new message is waiting. Why can’t this one??

In Your Account you can opt in or out of email notifications, so yes you can get email notifications. When a PM arrives there is a marker on the envelope in the top right corner of the forum header. There may be a simple answer as to why you have not received a reply, he has not seen it. He could be away sailing or on holiday and not checking the forum or emails.

Thanks I will look at this. It used to happen automatically before the site was changed. Yes I see the little flag in the top right but this is easy to miss. Used to be a big alert you couldn’t miss.

You get a number in brackets in front of the thread title as well as the little red flag at the top. I tend to notice that first because I usually immediately scroll down,

I suppose it depends on your browser whether and where you see that.

Well this has at least been useful in that i now know that you can choose to have e mail alerts when you get a PM. As the default seems to be that this is switched off though I wonder how many users know that you can switch it on in settings? Unless you do you wont get an alert e mail and might miss the little flag in the headings which is all you get. With the old system you got a big box open that you couldn't miss.

Thanks for that revelation. I had wondered what that number that comes and goes was about. it counts Alerts too.
