Constipation!

I have a friend whom suffers from constipation every time he goes sailing!

Just wondered does anyone else suffer from the same disorder? So I could pass on good advise to him before he encounters his next passage!
 
It could be that your friend has a problem using the heads in close proximity to everyone, it can be a bit off putting...also change of diet even for a couple of days can cause it. My wife has a 101 different reasons and just as many solutions, she has a health food shop.
 
He is obviously not sailing with the right company who are not allowing him to partake in traditional sailing fare of copious amounts of beer and large curries - he should choose better sailing companions!
 
I suffer from the reverse - every time the forecast gets to F6 and beyond /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Tobe a bit more serious, lots of people suffer from that problem temporarily with a change of diet etc. Like starting a holiday abroad. Answer - lots of fluid (we apparently dont drink enough and thats even more likely aboard) and lots of fruit.
 
Most of us go sailing to relax and enjoy either the challenge or just the sheer joy of scooting along on the water. Apparently this not true for your friend...instead of relaxing and/or achieving the natural high from meeting the challenge, he stays tied up in knots..."puckered." That'll cause anyone to become constipated if it lasts long enough.

He either needs to sell the boat and find a new hobby or learn to really enjoy sailing...iow, he needs to "unpucker"

(I have no idea what I'm talking about...but after 3 glasses of wine at dinner, this seems to make as much sense as any other theory.)

I hate to admit , I had the opposite problem . when I purchased my first large boat about 16 years ago the first year . I had to run for the head whenever we were within a few hundred yards from docking it was a nervewracking time for the SWMBO.

Getting back to Your friend is problem, I think Mss Peggie Hall . is correct with her assessment even with a few glasses of wine which did not cloud her judgment :-) .
have Your friend drink glass of warm water half an hour after meal as well as watching his diet as others stated.

I always thought you were an expert on the disposal of poo AFTER to leaves the body beautiful Peggie! The idea of the poor bugger sat stressed up in a corner with his bum puckered is not appealing. I feel quite sorry for him now!
Perhaps reading Birdseye's post he needs to go sailing in a gale of wind to unpucker.......
 
I tend to suffer the same fate if I do something different from my normal daily routine - Holiday, sailing etc. I used to be the same when I was on a 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off shift rota offshore.

I find if I eat a couple of oranges, it works wonders and have no problems.

get some 'fibregel' at the local chemist, makes an orange flavoured drink when mixed with water (or get some psyllium husks from wishbones wife's health shop) . Drink 1 or two of these day while on board, and does the job without causing the opposite problem!.
And drink plenty of water in proportion to the quantities of beer consumed ...
