Conran-designed Sealine?

Our friends at Sealine seem to have been a bit misrepresented here, so I have a few points for reference:

They are in fact making 11 models, not two, and the T60 is a collaborative effort with Conran designed to sell more product rather than fill a gap. Also, the T50 order book has been filled since launch.

Now, I wouldn't normally step in like this but I've spoken to Sealine and they would like this to be know, which I think is fair enough in the context of the thread.

I look forward to your comments...

Dan

Ah, the dreaded phone call from Sealine...I remember them well!

OK, so they're making 11 models...fair enough (someone's been telling porkies). But I still find it hard to understand why they're saving money by ditching the Boat Show and laying people off, then throwing money at Conran to make a silk purse out of a T60 when they obviously have some pretty decent designers in-house.

But we wait with baited breath to see the result. I once bought a very nice Conran chair made from marine-ply, so maybe we'll see a Sealine with wild biomorphic lines and post-modern structuralist detailing. Just as long as it has an Aveo bath in the master bathroom.

So Sealine called having read this thread? The new info seems obfuscatory. Sure the T50 order book might be filled, but how big is the book? Would have been more convincing if they said something objective. Like they built 25 last year (a resonable target for 50footer) and have orders for 25 more, etc.

I'm surprised by Sealine's continued mistakes. Thry are 90% of the way to good boats with the T50/60 but they just wont find the last 10%. PY says above a potential customer suggested changes to the boat but they didn't listen. I spent an hour with them when the T60 was new telling them what was wrong with it but they didn't agree any of my suggestions. The boss guy pre Brunswick (forgot his name, Wainright?) invited TCM and me to talk about T60, but having already talked to others in Sealine for an hour and been ignored I declined the invitation to schlepp to Kidderminster. More recently I spent an hour on the phone with their researchers (as did others on here), and the output of that seems the same - none of the defects I mentioned have been cured.

They might think they or Conran knows better what a 60foot / £1m boat customer wants. Alas, the people they should listen to are those who bought a competitor product. (That's what I do in my business; others on here must do the same?).

I wish them and Conran well with the project but I doubt the T60 will become desirable until the GRP mouldings are changed. You can't polish a turd.

I was one of the peeps interviewed by a market research company testing various layouts for what turned out to be the new SC47 and they took bugger all notice of what I said so either nobody else agreed with me or Sealine binned the results.
As you say, very carefully chosen wording regarding T50 sales. If they build 10 per year, I would be surprised
Having said this, I really wish them well and I hope they can continue to prosper in this difficult market. I've had 3 Sealines in my time and 2 of them were not bad boats at all

They would have been better off spending the money on putting the radar arch the right way round.

Oddly enough, of course, that's exactly what they have already done on the T50 and it makes a huge difference IMO. I just feel sorry for the poor bugger down the pontoon from us who must have bought one of the last 'back to front' T50's - if I were him, I'd be having a man in with a hacksaw to turn it round like the new ones.
